You can't live in wholeness or integrity when you're unwilling to bring your whole self before God and follow His calling. When you're holding something back as a sacred cow, you'll never feel at peace.
The Sacred Cow of Our Desires
Have you ever found yourself clinging to a dream or desire so tightly that it becomes an idol? I faced this struggle when I was preparing to leave the university I was working at. I had been pursuing a business opportunity outside of my role at the university, and I was frustrated with its slow progress. Initially, I blamed others for the lack of success, but as I reflected, I realized the real issue lay within me.
The revelation hit me: my biggest source of angst wasn't the business itself, but my unwillingness to truly bring it before God. I was holding onto my desires for running businesses outside the university so tightly that I couldn't honestly lay them at God's feet. This attachment was preventing me from feeling His peace and guidance.
It's not that pursuing these opportunities was necessarily against God's will, but my attitude towards them had become problematic. I wasn't open to hearing if God had a different path for me. This closed-fistedness was the root of my frustration and inner conflict.
The lesson here is profound: when we're unwilling to bring our whole selves before God, including our deepest desires and ambitions, we can't live in true wholeness or integrity. It's only when we open our hands and hearts, ready to follow God's calling - whatever it may be - that we can find real peace.
So, I challenge you (and myself) today: What 'sacred cows' are you holding onto? What dreams or desires have you been unwilling to surrender to God's will? Remember, true freedom and peace come not from clinging to our plans, but from being open to God's guidance, even when it might lead us down unexpected paths.
Be encouraged!
